Dear Friends,

It is so great to have summer here, the bridge open, the garden in production, a super staff making excellent product, and all of you joining in to support music, art, food, and community!  That sums it up right there but there so  many details to share that we hope you read on and as always… pass this on to a friend so the email list can grow!  As I write this, Townsend is out clearing up the gooseberry hedge and taking care of the flower beds.  Zack is loafing up some fine sourdough, Jean is frosting black and white cookies, Brennan is serving up our famous egg and cheese, Danika is making fresh coffee, and Ben is working on wood for the oven.  There are so many facets to a day at OTR!  We haven’t even mentioned the deliveries that have come in and gone out or the music booking that’s a non-stop conversation. Thursday night is a double bill with two talented local singer songwriters. Check out the Chris Peterman Quintet this Friday and kick the holiday weekend of with some great jazz. .  We will close at 12 noon on Saturday the 4th to best serve your parade needs.  Come by early for coffee and a bagel or your favorite morning pastry and then stop by just before, during or after the parade for a fresh slice of pizza and a cold drink.  We’ll be closed that night so you can party in the park.

Food- This week many of sandwich specials have featured garlic scape pesto grown from our garden and/or local arugula and salad greens from the Jubilee farm in Huntington.  Our brunch specials have been featuring strawberries from The Last Resort Farm in Monkton.  We highly recommend the strawberry, chevre, and fresh arugula crepes with sweet maple balsamic vinegrette.

Art- The Cheap Art Show is winding down and for those of you who have purchased a piece, you can pick it up anytime from Wednesday through Saturday.  (Remember, Sat. the 4th will be quite busy and we close at noon).  A huge thank you to everyone who made or donated art and to those who bought art in support of high quality music at OTR.  Stay  tuned for a fresh new look on the walls in July!

Community- As always we are happy to share recipes and love to hear about your creative ways to use local ingredients?  Let’s keep the conversation going and perhaps we can pass along some cooking/baking tidbits in this newsletter.  Our neighbor Lisa turned us on to sorrel pesto last summer.  It’s a neat variation from the traditional basil pesto and a great way to use an abundant herb.  You can email your ideas to Rae@ontherisebakery.net

All the best,

Ben & Rae
