Dear Friends of On the Rise, Welcome to the new format for OTR’s newsletter. Every issue will fill you in on what we have going on in the way of Food, Art, Music, and Community Events at On The Rise. If you think you know someone who would want to receive this, please forward it to them and they can drop us an email- thanks. Food: To liven up the dinner menu we are offering some new specials in addition to the pizzas, quesadillas, burritos, and wraps we’ve been doing. New on our menu is the OTR Veggie Burger! You’ve got to try it- it’s seitan based with diced onion, our own blend of zesty herbs and spices, and served with melted cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a homemade sesame sourdough bun. Also new is our own polenta with organic cornmeal from Butterworks Farm. And remember, each Friday we make a limited number of GF pizza crusts- call ahead to reserve one. If you haven't made it out for brunch at On the Rise yet join us for an outstanding Sunday meal. This coming Saturday the 22nd will be our annual pie tasting. Stop in for a bite of pie and place your Thanksgiving orders by the 24th for pies, pumpkin cake rolls, dinner rolls… See our website for pricing. |

| Art: The first month of Afternoon Art Sessions was incredibly fun! Work from the both workshops can be seen on one of the walls in the dining room. Using the art of Mattise and Cezanne as influences, eight participants focused on figure drawing, line drawing, color mixing, and printing on Mondays. For the last three Tuesdays, Chris Billis led a series of fiber arts workshops that involved sewing, weaving, clothing design and more. Check out our website for a brochure about the classes. It’s already time to sign up for the December series and less than a week away from the two-afternoon workshop in bread making and bread braiding on 11/22 and 11/23. Our featured artist this month is Allison Forrest. Her gorgeous blankets, tapestries, and wall hangings are displayed in the dining room through mid-December. Art Sign-Ups | ![]() |

Music: In addition to the solo performers and groups that play every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night at OTR, we have open jams every Wednesday. There is a rotation of Blues, Bluegrass, and Jazz so check the music calendar on the website for a detailed schedule. The open sessions are a unique way to connect with friendly folks at all skill levels ranging from the “getting there” to the “very accomplished”. Bring your instrument or come just to listen and support the many talented musicians in the area. Speaking of supporting, “Live at On the Rise” consistently brings you the best in local music and depends on your donations to keep the series going. When you come out to enjoy music, remember to drop something in the bowl to help keep all this alive. Don’t forget this month’s Open Mic on Wednesday, 11/19 | |
| last years coffee grounds and food scraps...We compost all of our kitchen, yard and garden waste ourselves at our home gardens. This is a pile of freshly turned almost finished compost. We returned three truck loads to our bakery gardens this fall. It feels great to close the loop. | ...become this years gardens We love to grow the food that we use in our kitchen. We have always supplied our own pizza toppings and salad fixings during the summer months. Other local growers and producers help us fill in the gaps and extend the season. Next year we'll move a new acre into cultivation. | ![]() |

Community: The second
ever OTR Craft Night is scheduled for Tuesday, 12/2 from 6-9. We did this
for the first time at the end of October and had such a blast we couldn't
wait to do it again. This is a chance to bring whatever your currently working
on (knitting, beading, drawing…) and be social over a cup of coffee
or tea and maybe a treat. We have the ongoing OTR tote bag project to get
involved with if you’d like. You can buy an already handmade, one-of-a
kind, recycled materials bag for $20. Or you can take the time to make your
own with help from the folks here and either donate it to On The Rise to
sell or pay the $20 and have the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself!
(All the proceeds go to support music and art at OTR).
A
last little bit is that we are seeking another restaurant style baby seat
for the dining room. If you have one your child has outgrown, it could
still enjoy a long life at OTR. |
